This example illustrates how you can create an attribute that splits all employees into managers versus individual contributors, to allow segment comparison.
Scenario
Your company is going through an acquisition, and you need managers to communicate strategy to employees effectively. Prior to doing this, you want insights on how managers actually feel about the strategy themselves, as well as identify any other engagement blind spots between managers and individual contributors.
Steps
- Navigate to Attributes within the Administration section.
- Click Add attribute.
- Enter the name. Example: Manager vs. Individual Contributor.
- Set Attribute type to Option.
- Click Save changes.
- Within the new attribute, click Add segment.
- Type a segment name, then click Add. Example: Managers.
- Repeat step 7 for the second segment. Example: Individual Contributors.
- Navigate to Employees in the Administration section.
- In the left filter menu, click the Employee role filter.
- Select Manager.
- Select all Managers, then click Edit.
- Find the new attribute that you created in steps 2-5.
- Set this to Managers.
- Optional: Click the small clock icon next to the field. Backdate as far as necessary.
- Click Review changes, then Save changes.
- Navigate back to Employees in the Administration section.
- In the left filter menu, click the Employee role filter.
- Select Employee.
- Select all Employees, then click Edit.
- Find the new attribute that you created in steps 2-5.
- Set this to Individual Contributors.
- Optional: Click the small clock icon next to the field. Backdate as far as necessary.
- Click Review changes, then Save changes.
Result
If you backdated the changes in steps 15 and 23, you can already navigate to the segment heatmap, and view historical survey data split by managers and individual contributors. If you skipped steps 15 and 23, the new segments will collect data from the next survey round onward.
Next Steps
To keep the attribute up to date, set new employees as managers or individual contributors after adding them to Peakon. Also, ensure that any employee that changes their role has this segment updated accordingly on their employee record.
If you ever need to test that the attribute is still up to date, here is how:
Managers segment | Individual Contributors segment |
---|---|
If any results display, it means those employees are part of the Managers segment, but they are not a manager on Peakon. Open their employee record, and switch them to the Individual Contributors segment instead. Backdate to the correct effective date. |
